About Eight Letters – Daily Word Puzzle

Eight Letters is a daily word game with one hidden eight-letter word and 6 guesses to find it. Everyone playing that day gets the same word. Each guess must be a real word of exactly 8 letters, and comes back coloured: green where a letter sits in the right place, gold where it belongs somewhere else in the word, grey where it is not in the answer at all.

A longer board is more forgiving than it looks. Each guess returns 8 letters of information rather than five, so a well-chosen opener eliminates a large share of the field in one move — which is why the attempt budget tightens as the words get longer rather than loosening.

An optional strict mode holds every guess to the clues you have already uncovered, which is tighter than the hard mode most word games ship: it honours grey letters and the "not in this position" half of a gold clue, not only confirmed greens. The puzzle resets at midnight Budapest time, streaks and statistics are kept per game, and past days stay playable in the archive without touching your daily streak.

How to play Eight Letters

Find the hidden eight-letter word in 6 guesses.

1. Green letters are correct and in the right place.
2. Gold letters occur elsewhere in the word.
3. Gray letters are not used again unless the answer contains another copy.
